VISION/DIRECTION/CHANGE

Just wanted to get your feedback about your own experience of church...you can be as honest as you like, and can even answer anonymously. If you have a moment and would like to share your thoughts, please leave your comments below as they relate to these interrelated questions:

What would your ideal church look like? How is that similar/different from your experience at Mission Baptist Church? In your opinion, what things draw you (and others) to church and what things keep you (and others) away. What would you change - add, take away, modify?

Thanks,
MP

o.k. that's a lot to answer! but I'll do a few now and then some later.....I'll start with the one about what draws people to a church...personally I think that it's the community and solid relationships that are there. The people and how much they actually care about you as an individual and a person of worth. Just the other day I heard a new person to our church ask someone "are the people hear always so open and kind?" or something like that anyway and in this world where we are told to be like those people and act like anybody but your self it's nice to feel like you are wanted just the way you are and that is Gods message to us and that is the message that christians should be and are giving to people who come to church(at least ours) and they are curios to find out why.....and then ultometly we all want a relationship with God do people are always surching for that which attracks them to Church.

so, pretty much I agree with what this anonymous persona, and i think that most people are attracted to a demographic that consists of a lot of people around their age. I believe the role of the church is to tell the true message of God. People can be attracted to a church body that is unified, because they feel they want to be part of the community, and loving friendship. I have also heard many people say how we are welcoming, and easy to talk to.. i think we should do more work in our own little social circles to show God's love in our own lives, and be close to each other as a church, and build each other up and support each other, which i think we've been doing a good job, except in youth sometimes when we burn each other, but its all in good fun, and everyone knows that we love each other. we need to care about the people who don't have anyone else, and less fortunate people in our own church.. anyways if it doesn't make sense, ill try to clarify it later because im kinda random

pushes away from church:
--> judgmental attitudes
--> closed mindedness
--> hipocriticism

draws to church:
--> acceptance
--> community
--> sincerity

mission baptist is a lot closer [to ideal] than most churches but still has a way to go
